TYPES OF PAINTS



1) Whitewash or limewash

  • This type of paint made from slaked lime.
  • It's a low cost paint that can be made by adding water to the mixture of powdered chalk. 
  • If you want a white coloured wall, then you should apply two coats of whitewash.
  • If you want colourful wall the better is to apply three cats of whitewash (lime wash).
  • Mixing method; lime + water + fevicol then we can apply it on the wall. 
  • It's usually applied to exterior, but it has been traditionally used in interiors of food preparation areas.

2) Distemper Paint

  • It is decorative paint.
  • Distemper paints are water-based paint.
  • They are available in powder and in paste form. 
  • It's a better version of whitewash. 
  • It's surface can be easily marked and discoloured. 
  • It cannot be washed down.

3) Cement-Based paint

  • It's a water-based paint where the cement acts as base. 
  • It is for the hardness and durability of the painted surface. 
  • They don't require oil or any other organic matter. 
  • It's suitable for coating concrete as well as decorating indoor and outdoor walls. 
  • It's mainly used for painting exterior wall surface for preventing water penetration and reductions of dirt collection.

4) Oil paint

  • The base material used in oil paint:

         I) white lead
         II) zinc oxide
         III) iron oxide
         IV) titanium white
         V) aluminium powder
         VI) lithosphone

  • It's basically a slowdrying variety paint.
  • They are thicker and harder.
  • Compare to other type of wall paint, the oil paint are glossy, smooth, more durable and stain- resistant.

5) Enamel paint

  • Oil-Based paint that have an excellent glossy finish. 
  • They are hard and render the wall glossy and opaque on the thinner that we are using. 
  • It dry slowly or quickly depends on the thinner that we are using. 
  • They are characterised by their durability and stain-resistance. 
  • It is excellent for concrete wall surfaces, doors, windows, staircases, kitchens, bathrooms, basements, porches, patios, and home appliances.

6) Textured paint

  • Textured paints consist of coarse grains  such as;

       . gypsum
       . sand
       . metal
       . ribbon
       . lace
       . leather

  •  A water-thinned binder is used for creating a rough effect on a wall. 
  • Textured paint has become one of the most popular trends in the home decor segment.
  • It is a great solution to hide uneven and imperfect wall surfaces.
  • Such paint simulates two senses:

       . sight
       . touch

7) Metallic paint

  • A paint which consists flecks       

        . aluminium
        . copper
        . bronze
        . stainless steel

  •  Such a type of wall paint is called metallic paint. 
  • Metallic paints are more feasible for painting metallic surfaces like vehicles, light fixtures, and hardware.

8) Aluminium paint

  •  Aluminium paint is a coating material . 
  • It is made by a mixture of oil varnish and aluminium pigment in the form of thin flakes. 
  • It reflects the sun’s radiation well and retains the heat. 
  • The resin helps the paint flow and gives it strength and durability. 
  • This type of paint generally has a silvery finish. 
  • The manufacturers only produce one shade of aluminium-based paint.

9) Latex paint 

  • The word “latex” originally refers to the use of rubber in the paint.
  • Latex paint is based on;

         . pigment
         . synthetic resin

  • Latex paint can be used on the surfaces of walls and trim, concrete, and wood. 
  • In this type of house paint, the principal constituent is the binder.
